One of Those Blogs

I was going to write a manifesto on dating, especially for men, but I'm having doubts about that topic.  Do I really care to help men get their woman?  I don't, actually.  I thought I did, but after enduring a weekend of endless texts and phone calls from men I (1) am not dating and (2) have no interest in dating, I'm going to say screw it.  You men can fend for yourselves.

For the record, yes, I've told them I don't want to date them.  I even pointed out to one of them that there are currently 3000 miles separating us, to which he replied, "When you come back, I have dibs."

Also for the record, the only person who has dibs on me is my sister.  Period.

So then I thought I'd blog about my sister.  Actually, it was her suggestion, because apparently I don't give her enough attention as it is.  <— That was sarcastic.  But she's been sick and uninteresting for a couple days now.  Her new tattoo is pretty cool, but what is there to say about it?  It's a dragon, and it's on her foot.  End of story.

What I should really do is issue a press release to the city of Portland, Oregon, and its surrounding areas, because I'm headed its way.  As I understand it, there is much revelry planned for my visit there, including tango, karaoke, and a Kell's extravaganza.  That is, of course, around all the writing I'll be doing.  < Just in case my agent reads this blog.

So...  What are you guys up to?  Taxes?  Spring break?  Read any good books lately?  Talk to me.

  • You forgot Powell's. And Saint Cupcakes.

I hate taxes. Taxes can die.

And I do have dibs. So THERE all you men. I come first. So you better be nice to me. :P

Let's see.. I just watched an episode of Miami Ink, because now that I've gotten my first tattoo, I'm a little obsessed. Annnnddd... I haven't picked up a book in a few days. Which is blasphemous, I know. I really have been uninteresting while I've been sick. Huh.

  • Regarding Portland (for those of you who aren't familiar with the city)... Powell's and Saint Cupcake--how could I forget? And we should do a foray to NW 23rd. (I'm assuming Voodoo Donuts is included in the karaoke outing. Maple bacon bars at Voodoo is a must.)

  • -sigh- One word: Exams.
Additional words: Karaoke = love, men = pah, books = I MISS THEM SO MUCH!!!!, tattoos = interesting concept, but I just can't find a design I'd be so willing to commit to.

  • I'm sure the Oregonians are on high alert as they await your arrival.

I'm happy because my taxes are not only done, but I rec'd my state refund already!

I've got two half marathons next month so I'm training for them (and when I'm not training I'm worrying that an injury I've been nursing isn't going to heal and they're going to have to pick me up off the course in an ambulance).

Reading Beth Ciotta's Out of Eden. I'm a big fan of her voice. This book opens with a woman berating her shoes....

  • Jen - Best of luck on the half marathons! Take it easy - Better to have a slow time but finish on your feet than a fast time ending in an ambulance. Not that I've ever had a fast time... But it was REALLY hot out that day, and there were a lot of hills, so I think my 2:40-and-change is justified...

  • Thanks, Karen.
I'm actually really slow anyway, lol. I'd kill for a 2:40. Congrats!

  • Really? Wow, that makes me feel so much better XD My little sister absolutely whupped me in that race... 2:24 for her, 2:49 for me...

  • Jen, good luck training! My knees ache just thinking about running that long. Really, I think anyone who subjects themself to that kind of torture is insane, but who am I to talk? I pay someone to beat me up on a regular basis.

I read a Beth Ciotta book a long time ago, and I remember loving it. She has a great voice. I'll have to look up Out of Eden.

Karen, good luck with your exams! And I'm with you on your sentiments about men.

  • Ok, you DID ask if I read any good books lately and I have - yours. And I know this isn't really the place to post this, but I tried the contact form and it kept telling me to fill in the message field, which of course I'd already done. Stupid technology. *glare*

    Ahem.

Anywhos, I noticed that Gabe's book was in first person, but Carrie switched to third and Willow looks like she'll be the same. I was curious about the switch, and I was also wondering if Gabe will ever rotate back into the narrator position for a future book. She did, after all, leave some personal loose ends flapping in the end of her book. Plus, you know, she was awesome.

  • Calliope, I've had a couple people tell me my Contact form is wonky, but I haven't been able to replicate it.

So, the reason Gabe's book is in first and Carrie's is in third. Um. Well. Okay--you want to know the real truth?

(I'm going to assume you said "yes.")

Apparently romance isn't supposed to be written in first person. I got so much opposition to Gabe's story, that I just decided to write the other two in third. Really, I would have LOVED to write CHOSEN in first, but from Max's point of view, but talk about rocking the boat. ;)

Also, frankly, the idea for the series changed once it sold. In the beginning, I hadn't planned on writing about all the different Guardians, but I'm happy I got a chance. It's been fun. Willow's is my favorite story, BTW.
